The Texas Savings and Loan
Department, Finance Commission of Texas issues and regulates the Mortgage
Broker License in the State of Texas.
The following information is required to obtain Mortgage Broker License in
Texas:
- Submit a completed and signed application along with the application fee
and other necessary supporting documents to the department.
- Texas law requires that the applicant maintain a physical address in Texas
to qualify for a mortgage broker or loan officer license. The address of the
office will be designated on the license certificate.
- The applicant must have at least three years of experience in the mortgage
or lending field.
- In lieu of the three years experience requirement, the applicant should
have at least 18 months experience in the mortgage or lending field and should
have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree
(or better) in an area related to finance, banking or business administration.
- The applicant should have a net worth of $25,000 or maintain a surety bond
in the amount of $50,000.
- Provide a signed and dated recent financial statement along with your application.
- A fully-completed fingerprint card is required for each applicant regardless
of any previous status with the department. A criminal background check of
the applicant is also done.
- Provide a copy of the certification issued by the provider of the statewide
pre-licensing examination as proof of having taken and successfully passed

- The Mortgage Broker License Act (the Act) requires that a mortgage broker
or loan officer licensed under the Act to obtain 15 hours of continuing education
as a prerequisite for renewal of their license unless they maintain one of
the licenses mentioned in the Act. Also visit Continuing

- A mortgage broker license issued under The Mortgage Broker License Act
is valid for two years and may be renewed on or before its expiration date
by paying the renewal fee and satisfy the provisions of the Act.
